Hattha Kaksekar targets groups and individual families in
both rural and urban areas. The target customer varies in accordance with
the products which Hattha Kaksekar offers.
In general, women initiate their business in service and
retail sectors. They manage cash in the family and allocate cash to ensure
their economic situation. The major problem that they face is a lack of
funds to support their daily business activities. They need credit to
create, improve and expand their business as well as their household income.
In many cases, women are the sole owners of the businesses, and their
husbands have their own jobs with different businesses (but still help their
wives sometimes).
HKL provides individual loans or group loans to citizen who
can meet its requirements including:

As of December 2008, 79% of active borrowers were women,
were mainly running micro-businesses with the remaining 21% being male
borrowers. Even if businesses are managed by husbands, most women still
help, especially with money management.
The majority of borrowers of HKL are between 31-45 years of
age. This is the age at which most people are capable enough to operate
their business given their work experience, financial capacity and energy.
The majority of loans are provided for micro and small
businesses (trade, commerce, manufacturing, service) and farmers. However,
most Cambodian farmers do not rely only on farming to earn income but also
seasonal agriculture such as fishing, vegetable farming and animal raising
... etc.
Be the end of December, 2008, 79% of HKL’s active borrowers
were female holding a total of US$ 21.8 million in loans and 21% were males
holding US$ 7.26 million. The percentage of women increased by 7 percent
compared with last year.

customers who borrowed from the institution, 35% of them used their loan for
agriculture, 28% for trade and commerce, 16% for household and family, 12%
for service, 4% for transportation, 2% for construction, and 3% for other
purposes.
